Description

Will your load fit inside 15 kilowatts? The Keysight N8932A DC power supply helps you answer that before you book. Its ratings are 200 V, 210 A and 15000 W, and the unit sits in the N8900 Series of autoranging systems on a 208 VAC three-phase feed. Lost in HCM lists it for rental and sale, and it arranges repair intake on request.

A worked example: 150 V at 90 A

Multiply voltage by current to test a load against the rating. A converter input that needs 150 V at 90 A draws 13500 W, so it fits. The same 90 A at 200 V needs 18000 W, so it does not. In short, the two headline limits never apply together.

Here are three more points on the power curve:

  • At 200 V, the ceiling is about 75 A.
  • At 100 V, the ceiling is about 150 A.
  • Below roughly 71 V, the full 210 A is available.

Write your own operating points on a sheet, then check each one against the Keysight data sheet.

Writing the test into a procedure

A supply is only as repeatable as the plan around it. Record the startup voltage, the current limits and the output sequencing. Then add the dwell time, the cooling arrangement and the pass-fail rule. After you settle the final settings, put them in the test procedure so a colleague can rerun the job. Choose the overvoltage and current limits from the needs of the device under test, and verify polarity before you enable the output.

Where it fits

Power electronics teams can use it to feed converter inputs and DC-powered assemblies. Production teams can use it for repeated power-on checks and endurance runs. However, it is a plain DC source, so it does not replace a regenerative supply or a bidirectional battery emulator.

Photo and label notes

The product photo shows a family panel with a blue display, two knobs, a keypad and a black rotary switch. Its label shows a different model number, so the quotation confirms the exact unit and its AC-input option.

Questions on the N8932A

What current can I draw at 100 V?

About 150 A. At 100 V the power rating, not the 210 A limit, sets the ceiling.

Does a 150 V, 90 A load fit?

Yes. It needs 13500 W, which is inside the 15000 W rating.

Which interfaces does it list?

LAN, USB, GPIB and analog. Test your driver on one station first.
