Description

Two boards on one bench usually mean two supplies and a tangle of leads. The Keysight E3648A power supply replaces both with one 100 W box and two outputs. Lost in HCM lists it for rental and sale in Vietnam.

Five amps on each output

Keysight lists a 0 to 8 V range at up to 5 A and a 0 to 20 V range at up to 2.5 A. Multiply them and you get 40 W and 50 W. Two outputs on the 20 V range therefore add up to the 100 W rating. Also, the 8 V range gives each output 40 W, so a pair of low-voltage rails stays well inside the limit.

Side-by-side bench work with the Keysight E3648A power supply

  • A processor board on one output and its peripheral board on the other.
  • Motor-control prototypes with separate logic and driver supplies.
  • Charger and converter tests that need a source and a bias rail.
  • Burn-in racks where each output feeds one device.

Reading the display and panel

First, the photo shows one large green readout for the selected output, plus range and over-voltage keys. Then you switch between outputs with the output keys. Meanwhile, a Track key lets two outputs follow each other when a task needs it. Also, each output has its own pair of front terminals.

Know the output 2 difference

Keysight notes looser voltage and readback figures on output 2. Therefore, use output 1 for the rail whose exact value matters most. In practice, output 2 fits loads that tolerate a little more variation.

Planning the order

Send your voltage and current per output, plus your interface and delivery city. For a quick ramp-up, rent the Keysight E3648A power supply. For a long program, ask for a purchase price too. Then request a quote from Lost in HCM. You can also see other power supply listings, read the Keysight E3648A page or contact SMK Vietnam.

E3648A questions

What current can one output deliver?

Keysight lists up to 5 A on the 0 to 8 V range and up to 2.5 A on the 0 to 20 V range.

How do I power two different boards?

Use one output per board and set each current limit before you connect the load.

Which interface does the listing show?

Keysight’s page shows GPIB in the configuration. Ask Lost in HCM about RS-232 or other adapters.
